SIMS was created in 1984 by Phil Neal. Fed up with the mountains of paperwork that came with teaching, Phil devised a way to simplify some of these routine tasks. Then, along with some dedicated colleagues, he developed this idea further. Today Phil runs a company of 600 people providing a management information system (MIS) which is used by 22,000 schools.

Since then, SIMS has been helping heads and teachers manage their schools for nearly 30 years. Nottingham - April 2016 In his latest book, Andy Gleadhill, author of the highly acclaimed series of "World Class" music teaching guides, introduces a new approach that enables schools to deliver really effective whole class instrumental teaching even if resources are limited and there aren't enough main instruments to go round.

Regardless of the instrument or musical style that is being taught, Percussion Buddies helps teachers to engage and involve all of the pupils all of the time. Whether it's African Drumming, Steel Pans, Ukuleles, Singing, Recorders, Woodwind, Brass or Strings in any musical style, the approach lets every pupil to participate fully and meaningfully throughout each lesson and at the same time learn ensemble playing skills, basic notation and all the elements of music.

Andy Gleadhill writes: "The inspiration for writing this book came from listening to head-teachers, teachers and music tutors who were frustrated because the funding available to them didn't allow them to resource their whole class instrumental teaching properly, leaving some pupils uninvolved - and frustrated - on the side lines.
